Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind

We are screening this exciting futuristic anime in its uncut original Japanese version. It's a powerful environmental epic created by the legendary Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle). Rated PG ~ it's for all ages! After the screening stay for family friendly eco demonstrations by some Green Screens partners including Back to the Wilderness, Bank Street Books, Con Ed Solutions, the Lower East Side Ecology Center and the Westside Community Garden.

Boasting an all-star cast of New York actors including Edie Falco and Madeline Kahn, and shot in sumptuous black-and-white, the film is an incredibly sensitive and humorous debut by writer/director Eric Mendelsohn. Actress Edie Falco and director Eric Mendelsohn will be present for a Q&A. As always, there will be a post-film party with an open bar and hors d’oeuvres.




Open Roads: New Italian Cinema
June 6 – 12
We welcome some of Italy’s finest directorial talents to New York with 13 new features including, in collaboration with the Film Society's Green Screens program, the screening of filmmakers Esmeralda Calabria, Andrea D’Ambrosio and Peppe Ruggiero’s Biùtiful Cauntri. There's a special retrospective screening (that is also the New York premiere) of filmmaker Franco Piavoli’s Blue Planet in celebration of its a 25th anniversary as well as a program featuring a selection of popular short films. Directors Gianni Zanasi, Ferzan Ozpetek, Andrea Porporati, Salvatore Maira, Wilma Labate, and actors Jasmine Trinca and Valerio Mastandrea are among the filmmakers expected to attend screenings during series. Seniors (62+) now receive a discount to all regularly priced Walter Reade Theater screenings, including those on evenings & weekends. The senior ticket price is $8.

Before you buy tickets for any screenings or events, consider becoming a Film Society member to take advantage of our member’s discounted ticket price of $7 for all generally priced screenings at the Walter Reade Theater, along with membership’s other benefits.
