Puzzle of a Downfall Child Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at 6:15 pm A creator of poetic images and a compelling storyteller in both photography and filmmaking, Jerry Schatzberg is one of the elite group of American independent directors who made their mark in the 1970s, rocking Hollywood convention with The Panic in Needle Park, Scarecrow and The Seduction of Joe Tynan. Now, with the publication of Paris 1962 (Rizzoli International Publications), the Film Society offers an alluring look at this quintessentially New York artist bridging the gap between still and moving imagery. The evening begins with a screening of Schatzberg's rarely seen first feature Puzzle of a Downfall Child, starring Faye Dunaway and the late Roy Scheider in a dramatic and moody tale of a New York fashion model and her personal travails. Schatzberg will be onstage for a Q&A following the screening. He will also sign copies of Paris 1962, which showcases Schatzberg’s photos of Yves Saint Laurent’s first independent collection and Marc Bohan’s show for the House of Dior.
