Though her new employer seemingly has a crush on her, Luisa tells her co-workers that she is marrying her boyfriend Carlos within weeks. Yet something is amiss: Carlos is absent Christmas Eve, and furthermore forgets to give Luisa a present. When her wedding day finally arrives, Luisa heads off to the church alone... Here, Gavaldón looks at the middle-class culture then spreading rapidly in urban Mexico, exposing how appearances too often replace any real substance in even the most intimate relations.
