ND/NF Classics
March 31 – April 4, 2008

Many filmmakers have been featured in both New Directors/New Films and the New York Film Festival, a journey short on distance (made a few steps longer while Alice Tully Hall undergoes renovation) but suggestive of the route those artists took to turn promise into reward. This year, while the newest class of New Directors/New Films artists enjoys the Walter Reade Theater’s spotlight at night, we spend our afternoons with five American independent filmmakers who’ve successfully made the trip, and continue to create some of America’s most inventive and engaging movies. We remember their earlier works here, with the same write-ups from their premieres at our festivals, as a fitting indication of how far they, we, and American film have come. –– Marian Masone
