Program 2: Innovative Enigma: Pina Bausch Plus New Shorts
Series: Dance on Camera Festival 2008

Horizon of Exile
Isabel Rocamora, UK, 2007; 22m
The journey of two women across timeless desert landscapes is punctuated by voice testimonies of Iraqi exiles. Aided by a haunting score by Jivan Gasparyan, the shape and movement of the bodies reflect a suppressed violence. The women move as though released from consciousness or gravity, falling and recuperating, haunted by an irrepressible past. Winner of a prestigious IMZ Dance Screen Award for choreography.

screening with

Pina Bausch

Anne Linsel, Germany, 2006; 44m
Before choreographer Pina Bausch and her Tanztheater Wuppertal were known and acclaimed the world over, audiences and critics were confounded, even angered by her new, unusual body language. In this documentary, Pina Bausch speaks about the beginnings of the Tanztheater and the path she had to follow. She reflects on her rehearsal process, her works (more than 30 by now), her co-productions with other cities and countries and the challenges of touring. Some of her dancers, as well as the set and costume designer, all of whom have been with Pina Bausch for decades, provide an insider’s look at an enigmatic yet passionate artist. Shot in Venice at the recently opened Teatro Fenice, as well as in Lisbon, Brussels, and Wuppertal with the support of WDR Cologne, and Arte France.

Lifeforce #3
Lene Boel, Denmark, 2007; 10m
A hooded man discovers an eerie environment of tunnels and machinery. An invisible force gradually takes control of his body pulling him through industrial spaces deep into a mysterious cave.

Fragmentation
Suzon Fuks, Australia, 2007; 6m
Two guys, James Cunningham and Rob Tannion, absorbed in their morning paper and their personal space, manage to find a disjointed connection with one another.

Flying
Phil Harder, Rosanne Chamecki & Andrea Lerner, US, 2007; 5m
Ah...if only it could be this easy!
