Every Little Step
Series: New Directors/New Films 2009
Director: James D. Stern & Adam Del Deo, Country: USA, Release: 2008, Runtime: 96

“God, I hope I get it.” Don’t we all? The classic musical “A Chorus Line” speaks and sings to the hopes, dreams, and insecurities of many, but especially of young dancers looking for a break. James D. Stern and Adam Del Deo’s high-kicking documentary about casting the 2006 Broadway revival goes backstage and into the lives of the artists auditioning for the new production, and shows how their stories connect with the experiences of the original cast members including Donna McKechnie, captured on tape by Michael Bennett, the show’s creator. The confessional tone of these recordings is a touching reminder of the struggles and euphoria of a life in the theater. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll want to dance!

A Sony Pictures Classics release.
